Léargas is a not-for-profit organisation based in Dublin, Ireland, dedicated to managing international and national exchange programmes in education, youth, community work, and vocational education and training. Established in 1986, Léargas serves as the National Agency for Erasmus+ in Adult Education, School Education, Vocational Education and Training, Youth, and Sport. It also oversees the European Solidarity Corps in Ireland.
Erasmus+ Project: The Nurturing School

Our school is proud to be part of the Erasmus+ project The Nurturing School, a collaborative initiative aimed at creating more inclusive, supportive, and emotionally aware learning environments across Europe. Through partnerships with schools in [partner countries], we are exploring best practices in promoting student well-being, resilience, and positive relationships within the school community.
As part of the project, our staff and students have engaged in training, classroom activities, and international exchanges focused on emotional literacy, mental health, and inclusive education. The goal is to embed nurturing principles into every aspect of school life, ensuring all learners feel safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.
This project reflects our commitment to fostering a whole-school culture of care and understanding, and to preparing our students not only for academic success but also for personal and social wellbeing.

IC Alberto Manzi, Rome – A Key Partner in the Nurturing Schools Project

As part of our Erasmus+ project The Nurturing School, we had the privilege of visiting IC Alberto Manzi in Rome, Italy. This school is a shining example of a nurturing educational environment, where fostering emotional well-being, inclusivity, and personal growth are at the heart of the curriculum.
IC Alberto Manzi is dedicated to creating a positive, supportive atmosphere for all its students. Their approach includes integrating emotional literacy into daily teaching practices, promoting kindness, and ensuring that every child feels safe, respected, and empowered. The school offers a dynamic blend of academic and emotional education, where teachers and students work together to build a compassionate school community.
Through the partnership with IC Alberto Manzi, we have shared valuable insights and practical strategies for nurturing student resilience, enhancing communication skills, and building stronger school-family connections. Their work within the Nurturing Schools project emphasizes the importance of creating an inclusive and empathetic school culture that supports the well-being of every child.

St. Benedict's College, Malta – Strengthening Our Nurturing Schools Partnership

As part of the Erasmus+ Nurturing Schools project, we were thrilled to collaborate with St. Benedict's College in Malta. This partnership has been an inspiring journey of shared learning and growth, where both our school and St. Benedict’s have worked together to build a more inclusive, emotionally supportive, and compassionate school environment for our students.
St. Benedict's College offers both primary and secondary education, providing a comprehensive educational experience for students aged 3 to 18. The school is deeply committed to fostering a positive, nurturing atmosphere that prioritizes the well-being of its students. Their approach integrates social and emotional learning alongside academic development, creating a holistic environment where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to thrive.
Through our collaboration with St. Benedict’s College, we have gained invaluable insights into effective strategies for promoting mental health, resilience, and emotional intelligence. The school’s dedication to student welfare and its innovative approaches to emotional literacy have greatly influenced our own practices. They have helped us refine our methods for supporting students' emotional development, ensuring that each child receives the care and attention they need to succeed in every aspect of their lives.

Ceip Santiago Apóstol, Alicante, Spain – Erasmus+ Job Shadowing Experience
“The Nurturing School: Removing Barriers to Education”

As part of our Erasmus+ project titled The Nurturing School: Removing Barriers to Education, we had the unique opportunity to collaborate with Ceip Santiago Apóstol, located in the vibrant city of Alicante, Spain. This enriching partnership enabled our teaching staff to participate in a job shadowing experience where we explored inclusive education practices and discovered how other European schools are nurturing the whole child and removing barriers to learning.

Impact on Our School
This Erasmus+ mobility experience has greatly enriched our approach to teaching and student support. Inspired by what we observed at Ceip Santiago Apóstol, we are now adopting new strategies to enhance pastoral care, emotional education, and inclusive practices—ensuring that each child in our school community feels valued, supported, and empowered.

Barlevento International Primary School, Portugal – Erasmus+ Pupil Mobility
“The Nurturing School: Removing Barriers to Education”

As part of our Erasmus+ project “The Nurturing School: Removing Barriers to Education”, we had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a pupil mobility program with Barlevento International Primary School, located in the scenic region of southern Portugal.
This mobility allowed our students to experience a different educational and cultural environment firsthand, broadening their horizons and deepening their understanding of inclusive education in a European context. It was an enriching experience where young learners exchanged ideas, built friendships, and discovered how schools across Europe work to remove barriers to learning and support every child’s growth.
